How to Reset Windows 11 Password with CMD Without Any Software (2025)
This tutorial shows how you can reset your Windows 11 password without using any third-party software. We will use Command Prompt (CMD) and the Utilman method, which works on laptops and PCs in 2025.
Steps to Reset Windows 11 Password using CMD (Utilman Method)
- Open Command Prompt
Boot into Advanced Startup → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Command Prompt. - Type Notepad and press Enter to open Notepad.
- In Notepad, click File → Open and browse to:
C:/Windows/System32 - Locate the file Utilman.exe. Right-click and copy it, then paste a backup copy and rename it as:
Utilman-TechThumps.exe - Now find cmd.exe in the same folder. Rename
cmd.exetoUtilman.exe. - Close Notepad, restart your PC.
- On the login screen, click the Accessibility (Ease of Access) icon. Instead of Utilman, Command Prompt will open.
- Now type:
net user ABC *
Example:Type a Password For the user: 123456Example:ReType a Password to confirm: 123456The Command completed sucessfully.
- Restart again and log in with your new password.
Important: After login, restore the original Utilman.exe (from Utilman-TechThumps.exe) to avoid issues.
